Daily Lift: Get Wisdom!
Titus 3:3
3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
When I think back to where I used to be and who I was then, I could easily adopt an attitude of shame. The world centered around me, and I was blind to my foolishness and disobedience. Wanting to “feel” better, I followed after things……belongings, affection, approval, and status. Even though I sorely lacked in the area of selflessness, I was fortunate enough to have God send me those who not only taught me better, but also did not allow me to pick up shame in its place.
None of us is perfect, never will be this side of heaven. As long as we start anew every morning to do better and be better, we are making progress. It is when we stop striving to be the best person God made us to be that we slide back into foolishness, disobedience, and deception.
What can we do to keep moving forward? Spending time in the Word and prayer is a start, along with getting involved with those who are farther along the maturity journey than we are. Wisdom is not relegated to biological age, for I have learned much from my spiritual daughters. Do not discount anything, but test it all against the Word of God. Only then do you accept it as wisdom and implement it.
This is what I know: The bad thing about being foolish, disobedient, and deceived is that you don’t know you are. This becomes a stumbling block when someone further along the journey takes the time to share wisdom that helps shift your thinking and perspective toward something that aligns with God’s Word. I have experienced more times than I like to admit when someone who has mentored me has corrected me in love, with the TRUTH, and I have become offended, defensive, and rebellious.
IF you can get out of yourself, put on a different pair of glasses, and see it from the opposite point of view, you have taken the first step to obedience and wisdom. Proverbs’ main theme is to gain wisdom and understanding, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs… because it is that important. I speak from experience when I say that you really don’t know it all.
If multi-millionaires have a team of advisors to keep them from making a wrong move, then why shouldn’t you……the child of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords…..have a team of advisors to lead you to what is really going on with you and your circumstances? God has given you His Word and voice, sent you protection through the angels assigned to you, and sent others in the flesh to lead you to the right road.
The choice is yours…….the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results……when someone instructs you to do something different, and you trust their wisdom…..don’t hesitate….do it!
