Daily Lift: Honor Rewards!

Titus 3:1

3 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,

Years ago in our small Bible Study group we watched the DVD series by John Bevere, “Honor Rewards.” Very informative about scriptures that instruct us who to show honor to and the rewards that come with it. He began with the simplest form of rulers, such as speeding laws, the police and firemen. He then went on to speak of your boss, mayor, governor, president, and pastor. Some of the posts he mentioned warranted double honor, which meant more rewards.

Up until that series, I had no problem speeding, even if it was only a few miles over the limit. Commuting 45-60 minutes a day, it seemed natural to “go with the flow” of traffic, even if they were going twenty miles over. However, once I listened to the message on police and laws at the local level, I was immediately convicted to cease.

Something strange happened……instead of being stressed as I usually was driving to work, keeping up with traffic, when I put my cruise control on the speed limit and sat back as all the other cars passed me by, I felt peace, something I hadn’t ever felt commuting. I arrived at work calm and ready to work without needing to decompress from the drive. I was ready to hit the ground running to prepare dinner when I got home instead of complaining about the commute time.

The reward for my obedience far outweighed the need for speed.

This is what I know: Rules and regulations are there for a reason. All societies need structure to survive and not fall into chaos. Paying attention to and respecting authority from the speed limits to the president of the USA, is not only recommended but ordered by God. He was the one that put you under that boss when He blessed you with that job, as well as allowed the president to be elected, for it all serves a purpose……HIS.

If you complain or disrespect or dishonor the authority of those over you, you are disrespecting God’s plan for your life and the times of the world we live in. We all have our opinions of how things should be done differently, but the truth is that if God wanted them to be different they would be. He is still on the throne and the enemy, Satan, is still subject to HIS authority. God has never been defeated, nor will He ever be defeated.

I have read the end of the Bible, the enemy loses, and we win…..God wins……however, IF we honor those that are over us, respect their place and rules, then there is a reward that comes with it. If you are able to honor those who the Bible states deserve our honor then you are honoring God. I can’t think of anyone more deserving……can you?
