Daily Lift: Let Me Walk Beside You!

Titus 2:3-5

3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— 4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God may not be blasphemed.

I saw a post on Facebook this morning that said, “Be who you needed when you were younger.” That hit me right between the eyes, for had I had the mentors I have now, then I wouldn’t have made the huge mistakes that I chose to make in my younger years. That being said, it has made me who I am today, and God has been faithful to forgive and heal my heart. But the point I am trying to make is, are you paying it forward?

There are so many women out there who need someone to steer them in the right direction. There is plenty on television, movies, and in magazines to steer them the wrong way, chasing the illusion of perfection, and adopting a selfish attitude. Where are the women who have learned a better way?

I am very happy to say that the Janice Drake Ministries team has not only come through the fire, trials, and tribulations, but they are extremely eager to reach out and help those who are still struggling to find their way. It is our mission to take the maturity of those who have gone before, walk alongside, and give support to those in need.

This is what I know: If you have been a Christian for a long time, receiving revelations, gaining wisdom, and experience, it is God’s Word that demands that you mentor the younger women. I know that I couldn’t have grown spiritually without a mentor. Saved at eighteen, not instructed what to do with my salvation, I wandered to and fro, following one trend after the other. It wasn’t until I came to North Carolina in 2001 that I found a church that believed in ensuring new believers had a firm foundation.

Once I had someone mature in their faith assist me in reading the Word, ask me the hard accountability questions, and steer me towards books, podcasts, and conferences, I was able to grow in maturity and faith. When I had questions, she was there to answer them by pointing me to Scriptures that gave me instruction. If I faltered in my faith walk, she reminded me that God had been faithful in the past and that, since He never changed, He would do it again.

I can’t put a value on her guidance, but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am today if she hadn’t been there for me. So now, through Janice Drake Ministries, I have a group of women who are willing to share their wisdom, their experiences, and their love of God with those who are either entering the journey or struggling on the path.
